Sony has today confirmed the three PS5, PS4 games PS Plus Essential members can look forward to playing as part of their subscription for May 2024. Available to download from Tuesday, 7th May 2024, they are:

- Ghostrunner 2 (PS5) | Review
- Tunic (PS5, PS4) | Review
- Destiny 2: Lightfall (PS5, PS4) | Review
Sony seems to be positioning EA Sports FC 24 as the headliner for May 2024, which marked the first time the franchise released without FIFA in the name. It's still mostly the same game as before, though, with quality football gameplay across a lot of different modes. "Beneath the air of familiarity is another slick soccer sim, with some smart new additions like PlayStyles and Precision Passing which help stamp a bit more personality on a previously robotic experience," we concluded in our EA Sports FC 24 review.
"Additions to Ultimate Team bring flexibility to the game’s flagship mode, while the developer has been listening to its fanbase, and is slowly iterating on oft neglected areas like Career Mode and Clubs."
The PS5, PS4 console maker also really wants to make sure you're all caught up on Destiny 2 expansions, as Lightfall marks yet another bonus DLC included with PS Plus Essential. This will prepare you for The Final Shape dropping in June.
Indie gem Tunic and AA sequel Ghostrunner 2 round out the line up to satisfy a wider audience of PS5, PS4 users. Having first launched on Xbox, Tunic made its way to Sony systems, where we awarded it an 8/10. "It's a cohesive, satisfying game that scratches an old school action-adventure itch, going above and beyond with subversive, cerebral puzzles. It maybe goes on a touch longer than it needs to, but this little gem of a game punches above its weight."

Disappointed
Knew I shouldn't have bought ea fc24 last month when it was cheap. Especially as I haven't played it yet. I didn't take the gamble on destiny so at least I have benefited there. Haven't played first ghost runner yet but will definitely try it out. Good month really
That's a pretty decent line up, looking forward to trying Tunic and Ghostrunner 2. Will also downlaod EA Sports FC if there's a Euro's update.
Ouch. Won't touch Destiny again (fan of the original, never got into D2), not a fan of Ghostrunner or EA FC. So it's just Tunic for me this month.
Oh well, they can't all be tailored for my taste (but I wish they could).
Happy with Tunic. Ghostrunner 2 seems to have come to plus quite quickly with the first also being on plus a while ago. I like the look of the games just know I will be useless at them!

Wanted to give tunic a try, but everything else is a meh. Looking forward to animal well as well to be honest addicted to helldivers 2 and hardly played any other game.
This is a great lineup! I’ve been meaning to check out Ghostrunner for a while. And, if people haven’t tied it, Tunic is a phenomenal game.
Just got Tunic on disc, but as a Liverpool supporter (not an EA supporter) I'll take Klopp's farewell team for cheap. 22 was the last decent FIFA. Ghostrunner looks good, love the artstyle.

Tunic is excellent. I never finished it on Switch because the final boss kicked my butt. For the Zelda/Souls lover, it’s a must play.

Tunic is a great game. I played it on x ox and never got to finish it so I’ll be glad to give it another go. Ghostrunner should also be decent even though they are maddeningly difficult games

Nice, Tunic has been on my wishlist for a while. Don't care for football or Destiny, but great for those that are into that sort of thing. Still need to get to the original Ghostrunner at some point, but definitely interested in it.
I can stop Helldiving whenever I want, I tell myself. I don't know when I'm going to get to any of the above in reality.
This is actually a really solid lineup. FC 24 is not really for me, but is arguably one of the biggest video games in the world. Both Ghostrunner 2 and Tunic and pretty well received as well. No surprise seeing the next D2 expansion on the list, too. Seems Sony have been releasing each expansion sequentially over the past few months.

Well I'm very happy I get Tunic so that makes it a fine month for me regardless of the others.

Tunic is amazing, happy for anyone that hasn't played it yet! I have nearly finished ghostrunner and nearly bought 2 when it was in sale recently so that worked out well!! Have a mate addicted to FC24 so might get thrashed by him for a couple of matches 😂
You know what, apart from Destiny, this is a good lineup for me. Even FIFA. Haven’t played since 14 (after which they nerfed the manual through ball and made it less fun), and don’t really want to give EA money, but happy to play it now and then and see how much has changed in the last 10/11 years.
Tunic looks decent! Ghostrunner I’m not bothered with as I really didn’t like the first one, Destiny 2 can do one as it just wants to suck more money from you as soon as you load it up. Haven’t played properly since 2019 and I’m not about to start now. Last time they gave us a D2 expansion I booted it up and had to click through endless popups wanting more money. That can get in the sea.
Oh and football. Yeah ok if you want a game worth all of 99p aimed squarely at promoting FUT then go on, you do you, I’ll be on Helldivers having fun.
Still, Tunic looks good!

Tunic is great. You can focus on the main game, or you spend much more effort into the the side stuff which is almost hidden to the average gamer. At least try it!
This is a pretty good month. Totally knew Tunic was gonna be an Essential game, so I feel good about that. The Ghostrunner games look dope as hell, I need to get to those sometime. For the other offerings, I'll quote somebody above "C'mon Sony. If they wanted football they'd already have it." Can apply that to Destiny 2 dlc as well.
The best football game yet. Amazing offline play, highly recommend couch and singleplayer modes
I have yet to feel enough interest for Destiny (and its filesize to make room for), so between two titles on Switch and one locked to PS5, I don't expect to engage this lineup much beyond maybe installing Tunic for the points' sake.

Absolutely fine with this month. Tunic will be near the top of my list. Ghostrunner I could never get into. I’m not big on first person games for the most part tho. So I doubt I try the sequel. I’m just happy I have something here to play :’)

Nice, I was wanting to get FC 24 for ps5 as not got a football game for it yet, although I have a ps4 fifa game. I think the first ghost runner was on playstation plus too, but I will have to check my library to make sure. Just out of interest, could someone please inform me about the destiny dlc, is it a standalone single player experience? Not really interested otherwise 😂

Good month. Reminds me of FIFA 22 being given as an Essential title 2 years ago also in May. I'd never buy those sports games but I enjoy playing them from time to time. Tunic is the highlight of the month, amazing title.
This would of been a great month if I didn't already have Tunic on Switch physically and if I had a PS5 to play Ghostrunner 2, because I don't play Destiny and I don't play sports games

Not much for me here, but I can appreciate the quality of the lineup. I might consider playing Tunic, even though it’s not my usual type of game. Nor are sports games or first person action like Ghostrunner (I think I have the first game still unplayed in my library from PS+). And Destiny…. That ship sailed a long time ago for me.

With the previous D2 DLC (WitchQueen?) being included a few months back and now Lightfall, it's clear that Sony are doing everything they can to try to pull players back into D2 before Final Shape. Just a pity that Lightfall is one of the more polarizing DLCs the franchise has had!
That aside though I'm looking forward to Tunic!

Am I right in saying FC24 doesn’t have the J-league? That sucks, because it’s the only league I watch. They have the K-league and Chinese league, but not the J-league. Guess they couldn’t get licensing or something

@Member_the_game how so? Is there a Horizon game every 12 months the same as the last but 1 new animation? I've stopped getting F1 for the same reason and will never buy a football game. I have iss pro 98.
@Member_the_game he isn't wrong though, games like football and CoD etc are games people aren't generally on the fence about. You like them or don't,.unlike for example Ghostrunner, that's a game people would be unsure about and wouldn't be willing to payout straight away for. There's a reason fifa, cod, nba, release pretty much on the year, and its not because people are waiting for psplus release...
@Uromastryx I actually think @Member_the_game has a point. There are plenty of casual soccer fans or casual CoD fans that may not want to drop $70 annually for an iterative new release. Putting these bigger annual titles in a PS+ lineup is a great way to keep online actively thriving and get some more people in that wouldn't necessarily shell out the cash for the game. For example, I haven't purchased a new NBA2K game since 2K12, but appreciate 2K24 being offered in a prior month. I'm definitely not a big enough fan to keep buying every new release, but am more than happy to jump in if it comes with my subscription.
Good selection in my book. Looking forward to play Tunic, tried it on Gamepass and it was quite good.

Whether there's a new game every 12 months or every 5 years is irrelevant.
My point was that you said if people want it, they'd already have it. Well you could say exactly the same thing about Horizon, or pretty much any game for that matter.
I'm going to assume you just don't like football in which case feel free to ignore what I'm about to say. lol.
If by chance you do though, I'd recommend giving EA Sports FC24 a try, I did coincidentally play ISS Pro 98 at a friend's house recently, my god it was awful compared to the new games. Just my opinion if course
Nostalgia is a great thing but sometimes you have to go back and play the older games to realise just how good the new ones are.
You don't have to buy them every year, just take this one as it's a freebie.

I've read your post a few times and I'm still unsure if your agreeing or disagreeing with me.
Personally though, I don't mind COD games, I enjoy them but it's not something I enjoy enough to to shell out £70 a year on (basically because Im just not very good at it haha). I guess you could call me a casual COD fan.
So if and when one gets given away on PS plus, that suits me just fine.
And for me at least that's what PS plus is all about.
I don't expect every single game given away to by at the top of my shopping list but even if I get 5-6 games a year that I really like from it, then for me it's worth the subscription price
@Member_the_game yes of course pro 98 is awful to new kids. I still play C64 games as I like some old classics, it's not always about the looks. Nostalgia had me replay Fallout, the first one and whilst it looks old it tells a great story.

Born in 82 so grew up in the 90's you could say.
I get that the kidz of today probably wouldn't like it but I grew up playing them.
Don't get me wrong I love a bit of retro gaming, but football games in particular from back then just haven't aged very well I don't think.
The only Football game from back in the day that I can still play and enjoy is Sensible Soccer, always had a soft spot for that one, despite how terrible it looks 😃
Got a decade on you. You still won't allow my opinion. You've got a lot to say but no listen. Sony could do better for me, not you, this month. I won't play it, I shall go back and replay the last ninja first, which remains in my top ten, and sensi soccer was an 8 bit mess on screen with an afterthought system and only a d pad and 1 button, beaten thoroughly by speedball2. But again that thing we call opinion. 😉

Bit disappointed. I've got EAPlay so I'd be getting FC24 anyway. Lightfall is just DLC again for Destiny 2 that I have no interest in (again). Tunic looks fun though.
I really don't understand why people are always disappointed.
These 4 months have been great, expecially if we look to previuos years: Sifu, Tunic, Ghostrunner 2, Immortals, A Plague Tale, etc. The increased price for PS Plus really increased the quality of this service.
Actually quiet happy. Visiting family right now and my cousin and I used to always play FIFA but I stopped buying it few years back so this will be fun. Tunic also looks fun and I will give it a try. Destiny no thanks and Ghostrunner just not my thing. Still pretty happy. I wish the FIFA/Now FC would just always be essentials from release

Typically I just bought lightfall 3 weeks ago. Don't play football or most sports games and most of the indie games I find dull.

Awesome! Tunic is definitely the headliner for me. And Ghostrunner 2 is a rad looking game that I will try for a while. Hopefully there's an easy mode so I can make more progress than the first one.

For real, a solid month!! Tunic is a game I want to experience, so having it in Essential makes it permanent. Ghostrunner 2 is enticing as well!!

Decent month for me, I generally don't by FIFA games (was always a Pro Evo fan) but for free I'll take it but I will be transferring Atony out of the squad strait away!!

Great Month for me. Held off on Tunic and Ghost runner 2 due to too many games coming out last year,so delighted tbh..
Tunic is great game but Ghostrunner 2 didn't sell much so its pushed into essential, rest is bad like Ubisoft games pushed to extra cause Ubi has financial problems.
Tunic make psplus this month worth it 😃
